Shot Blasting Conveyor Belt
Shot blasting conveyor belts are thick, durable belts designed to withstand the punishing environment inside a shot blasting machine. They transport parts through an enclosed cabinet where steel abrasive is forcefully blasted across the surface to remove contaminants, burrs, and rust. The belt itself consists of multiple thick layers of fabric reinforced rubber plies with a specialized rough-top surface. Generally made from natural gum rubber for flexibility and fatigue resistance, these belts range from 1⁄2 to 1 inch total thickness to cushion parts against the steel shot impact. Additional rubber or urethane coverings are often added to prolong belt life. Edge guarding in the form of steel strips or thick ropes of twisted rubber encases the sides of a shot blasting conveyor belt. This protects the edges from premature damage while containing the bouncing abrasive within the belt’s walls. Steel wire cords embedded lengthwise give the belt superior strength to pull heavy and bulky parts over drive, snub, and idler pulleys using attached cleats.
